Programs & Activities


The Advancing Bear Care 2016 – Omaha, “A Step in the Right Direction” conference will take place

at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium


We are changing our format this year and offering new workshops including topics such as:

  • Enclosure design/redesign and how to overcome the challenges of a less-than-optimal enclosure

  • Training for medical procedures and geriatric bear veterinary care

  • Behavior-based enrichment: How to tailor your enrichment program to fit the behavioral needs of your bears

Conference wrap-up and featured lecture at zoo in the morning

Optional behind-the-scenes tours at the zoo OR trip to Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari in the afternoon

All delegates are invited to bring their bear photography, arts, crafts, and books for sale.  Organizations are welcome to bring their T shirts and other items for sale and information.  All proceeds will stay with the delegate and/or organization.  There is no charge for table space.  To reserve table space, please be sure to check the box for Bear Book & Art Den while registering.  You can also contact Mindy Babitz at
