The Advancing Bear Care Conference returns to the United States April 30-May 4, 2024, in partnership with the Oakland Zoo in California. This year’s theme is “Advancing Bear Care: The Next Level”. In addition to advanced husbandry practices for bears under human care, discussions will also focus on issues faced by wild bears ending up in human care as a result of human-bear conflict. We will have a full-day session exploring how zoos and sanctuaries can support wild bear welfare through collaborations with local Fish & Wildlife and other regulatory agencies. Examples of how zoos and sanctuaries can play an important role in local bear conservation will include public education, messaging, welfare decisions, and ongoing specialized support of rescued bears. ABC 2024 will provide three full days of presentations, posters, and interactive panel discussions.
