Beyond the Bear Necessities: Assessing Welfare in Bears

Join the Bear Care Group for our “Advancing Bear Care 2022” virtual two-day conference. This year’s conference theme is “Beyond the Bear Necessities: Assessing Welfare in Bears”!  We will explore ideas and methodologies to assess and improve welfare for bears beyond current accreditation and regulatory standards. Included in the program are a series of speakers discussing topics including, but not limited to: bear enrichment, geriatric care, introductions and social groupings. Focus will be on conducting welfare assessments and utilizing the information to improve bear husbandry. The BCG is privileged to host a panel discussion with a team of international experts, which will discuss how individuals and institutions can address care and welfare for bears living in suboptimal environments or facilities.
